What is counselling?

Counselling is a processes where you can share your troubles in a confidential , private environment with someone who is there to help  make sense of your situation. Sometimes referred to as ‘two people meeting for the benefit of one’ which is you. Counselling can help you make sense of your life , helping you  make the life choices that could lead to a happier more fulfilled existence.

What type of counselling do you offer?

I was trained in, and offer Person-Centred counselling, in the Tameside, Mossley, and Uppermill areas. Person-Centred counselling was developed by Carl Rogers who developed a non-directive form of therapy which means that you steer the session at your pace, we work together in a respectful way, working with the issues you wish to discuss.

Person-Centred counselling  focuses on the quality of the relationship so you feel safe, exploring what could be sensitive and difficult issues that you need to resolve.

What issues can I bring to counselling?

The sessions are yours to use as you wish, you can explore parts of your life which are causing you unhappiness or pain, which maybe stopping you live the life. Issues that can be looked at in counselling include frustration, shame, depression, low mood, bereavement, addictions. Living with a family member who may have issues with drugs or alcohol, fear, problems with relationships or work which maybe causing you distress. In fact, any issue that stops you fully enjoying life.

Am I weak if I feel I need counselling?

No, quite the opposite, people who seek counselling want to try to change their situation, it is a misconception that visiting a counsellor is a last resort or may indicate that you are not strong enough to deal with your problems yourself.

Counselling has existed since humans stated to interact with each other, in the past a person may have talked with a tribal leader or elders, sometimes the community they lived in offered support.

Over the years, life seems to have a faster pace, we have moved away from this community model to the point where it can feel like no one has the time to listen. Sometimes it feels that the more we have progressed the more isolated we become.

You don’t have to do this on your own.

As a counsellor I  want to be fully present with you, not just listening but truly hearing your story. No matter how scary it may get, you don’t have to do this on your own. Why not let me know where you are at, by using my confidential contact.  No one will see it but me, there is no cost involved to enquire and only tales a few moments to complete. You can choose if you want me to respond via email or leave you phone number and I will call you back.

Will you give me advice?

Some counsellors do, I do not

How often have your feelings and opinions been trusted as the way to live your life on your terms?

Probably not often enough!

No one, not even a counsellor knows your life better than you, Person-Centred counselling believes that if we can build a trusting relationship, you will be able to find your answers and your true self.

I support you in helping you discover your own solutions, and respect the person you are or wish to become.
